The Italian grandfather who smashed into George Clooney’s scooter in Sardinia on Tuesday has since revealed that he not see the actor coming because the sun was in his eyes.
Antonelli Viglino, 65, had come to a stop and was about to turn left, crossing Clooney’s path, when the actor plowed into him, reportedly at a speed of 60mph.
Terrifying video of the collision shows Clooney being flung from his bike and landing on the ground. Miraculously, he survived with no head injuries and some damage to his pelvis.
Viglino said he was stunned to learn who Clooney was once his helmet had been removed.
He likened the accident to the famous Nespresso commercial in which the actor appears, saying he introduced himself to the firefighters and others at the scene by saying: ‘I’m George’.

‘I didn’t see anything, I had the sun on my eyes. I was about to turn, I just got over the line,’ Mr. Viglino told the Italian newspaper Il Giornale.
Mr. Viglino, who is a plumber, was on his way to work to perform maintenance on a villa on the island.
After the crash, he was so upset that he slumped against a wall on the side of the road and had to be driven home by a friend.
Before he left the scene, one of Clooney’s security guards – who had been driving in front of him on his own scooter – told him who had been hit. ‘You hit Clooney,’ the man said.
When a stunned Mr Viglino asked who, they replied: ‘Clooney … the actor … the one who shoots the film at the airport’. Clooney is in Sardinia filming the Hulu series Catch 22.

‘I hope to see him again,’ Mr. Viglino said.
A witness, Gianni Visciano, who was driving a pick up truck, said: ‘Clooney was shouting and when one of his escorts took off his helmet, he seemed unable to move his legs and held his head’.
Sergio Gavazzi, owner of the nearby Costa Corallina café, added: ‘There was great confusion. Cars were queuing as people stopped to look. One of Clooney’s escorts shouted: ‘No photos on mobile phones.’

Video taken from a fixed security camera, obtained by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, shows another rider managed to get around the car, but Clooney, believed to be riding nearby, was reportedly hit.
In the video, he is seen flipping over the handlebars of his scooter, flying into the air, appearing to hit the windscreen of the car, before tumbling onto the asphalt.
Fortunately the star was wearing a helmet and was driving slowly, but the windscreen of the Mercedes was badly smashed.

A spokesman for the Oceans 11 actor told Associated Press he was ‘recovering at his home and will be fine’.
Clooney’s wife Amal, 40, immediately rushed to his side and after two hours, she and George left together via a side exit with security and the local police escort.
