He is the longest serving actor on Channel Seven soap Home And Away.

But on Friday Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, put the script down and stepped behind the microphone for a special appearance on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy And Wippa Show.

The 73-year-old took on the breakfast show’s rap battle, going head to head with Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli.

His 38-year-old opponent started the challenge, rapping to Eminem’s 1999 hit ‘My Name Is’ and using some of Alf’s most memorable catch calls.

One line included: ‘Are you really rapping today or is that a bad cough/ I don’t want you to be caught out yelling “hey, bugger off”.

He then went on to present a hilarious, but limp rhyme: ‘Hey Ray did you hear about Fitzy’s staph infection, he needed anti-fungal/ and to be honest I just needed a word that rhymed with flamin’ mongrel/ mongrel this and mongrel that, yeah Fitzy needed anti-fungal.’

In with a win? Wippa thought he was on to a winner with his rhyme by using some of Alf's most memorable catch calls such as 'bugger off' and flamin' mongrel, and celebrated by dabbing

The veteran actor approached his rhyme with poetic feel: ‘OK guys now here’s the plan/ a broken down footy star thinks he’s the man/ he met an old porn star known as The Wippa/ people soon called him the Wippa snipper.’

He rapped on: ‘They agreed on the name Fitzy and Wippa/ and for a while it was a bit of a ratings dipper.’

However, despite most challengers cheekily roast the host and the show, Alf ended his rap with a compliment: ‘bit by bit they did ok/ I guess that’s why they’re here today.’
