Inmates take over South Carolina prison, make way to roof



Inmates at the McCormick Correctional Institution took over the facility Wednesday, making their way to the building’s roof to try to escape, the McCormick County Sheriff’s Office said around 5:45 p.m.


The sheriff’s office said there was also a fire at the South Carolina prison, located 78 miles west of Columbia, S.C.


McCormick County Emergency Services said a half hour later that the situation had been “contained.”

“At this moment there have been no escapees,” it said.
