Jared Leto to play Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in biopic

Jared Leto is putting on Hugh Hefner’s red bathrobe.

The “Blade Runner 2049” actor will star as the Playboy founder in a new biopic from director Brett Ratner, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Jared is an old friend,” Ratner, told the website. “When he heard I got the rights to Hef’s story, he told me, ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him.’ And I really believe Jared can do it. He’s one of the great actors of today.”

The news comes just days after Hefner, 91, died at his home after going into cardiac arrest and suffering respiratory failure on Wednesday.

“He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history.”

Leto, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his role as an HIV-positive transgender woman in “Dallas Buyers Club,” was panned for his Joker in “Suicide Squad.”

Ratner has been attached to this movie since 2007, when Robert Downey Jr. was originally supposed to star as the magazine publisher.
