Larry David’s days on “Saturday Night Live” impersonating Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will certainly endure.
The longtime comic channeled the Vermont senator so well, some might’ve had trouble distinguishing the two.
The charisma was there. The passion was there. The progressive tilt, present also.
It came during a stretch of “SNL” that was perhaps the show’s strongest in years.
So, how could this intricate David-Sanders comedic relationship continue? Just ask “Finding Your Roots” host Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
In the Season 4 premiere of the PBS program, Gates said that the two are related — in fact they’re cousins.
A video of the conversation was posted by the “Finding Your Roots” Facebook page (above), and shows the two personalities being interviewed separately.
Both David and Sanders were given a book to open, decorated with a picture of their famous relative.
Before opening, David, 70, says, “I hope it’s a good athlete.”
Finding Sanders’ picture, he says, “What the hell!?”
As Sanders opens the booklet, he shouts, “You’re kidding! That is unbelievable!”
The 76-year-old senator then continues chuckling over the findings.
David, star of the HBO show “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” also says that he’s happy to have a “Cousin Bernie.”
Sanders proclaims, “He does a better Bernie Sanders than I do!”
