LiAngelo Ball says UCLA made him thank Donald Trump

The war of words between the Ball family and Donald Trump wages on.

LiAngelo Ball and his father LaVar appeared on “The Breakfast Club” Wednesday morning and the former UCLA player said the university forced him to thank Trump for his release from China. LiAngelo was arrested along with two other UCLA teammates for shoplifting while overseas.

“If they didn’t tell me to do it, it wouldn’t have been in there,” LiAngelo Ball said.

Ball returned home with teammates Cody Riley and Jalen Hill in November after they were briefly detained in China for their crime. Trump claimed that he asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to let the boys go and tweeted angrily after he wasn’t thanked quickly enough.

A press conference was held for the three players when they returned to the U.S., and LiAngelo did have a message for Trump.

“I’d also like to thank President Trump and the United States government for the help that they provided as well,” LiAngelo said in the press conference.

LaVar would go on to further escalate the situation with Trump by questioning whether or not Trump actually did anything to help his son. This made Trump fire off another tweet saying he should’ve left the boys in jail back in China.

UCLA suspended LiAngelo and the other players involved indefinitely following the incident, but LaVar ended up pulling his son out of the school.
