After living in the mansion for over a decade, Mel decided to part ways with the abode last year. But has now decided to settle on a lower asking price after failing to sell the property.

The multi-estate mansion has a unique touch with it’s Medieval style design inspiration focusing on stone and wood panelling.

Interiors play up to the rustic charm with spacious exposed ceiling beams, stone fireplaces and a wooden tower.

The Braveheart star also remodelled several fireplaces into Christian shrines with wooden crosses.

There is also a detached guest and pool house for residents to make full use of California’s scorching sunny weather.

Designers were keen on giving the house its old-world feel by importing antique elements from Europe and Californian farms after the house was rebuilt in 1996 following fire damage.

‘This property is very private, You just don’t have any sense of it when you’re driving along the street. It lends itself to people who really appreciate unique architecture but also value their privacy,’ agent Damon Skleton from real estate brokerage Compass revealed.

The initial listing a year ago described the property as ‘unlike anything you have ever experienced.

‘Pass through a private gate down a long driveway to a truly one of a kind ”Old World” estate.’

The alluring description makes sure to let perspective buyers understand the secluded nature of this massive hideaway.

‘Stone archways lead you down a magically lit pathway to private sun deck,’ the listing adds.

The Braveheart star and director bought the home from fellow actors, couple David Duchovny and Téa Leoni for $11.5million in 2008.

Meanwhile, it is a busy time for Mel as he signed on to direct the World War II drama Destroyer, according to Variety.

The film’s script will be penned by Rosalind Ross, who is Mel’s partner of four years and mother of his ninth child, one-year-old son, Lars.

The movie will tackle the Battle of Okinawa which took place in 1945. It is based on the non-fiction book Hell From the Heavens: The Epic Story of the USS Laffey and World War II’s Greatest Kamikaze Attack’ by John Wukovits

The big screen epic could follow in the footsteps of the Gibson-directed war drama Hacksaw Ridge, which won two Academy Awards.
