He is an acclaimed actor who has spent six decades in the film industry.

And Sir Michael Caine looked in good spirits as he took to the stage at Somerset House, London, to introduce the film ‘Inception’ at the Film4 Summer Screen screening.

The 85-year-old legendary actor looked his ever-dapper self in a powder blue open-collared shirt and navy blue suit jacket as he said a few words about the 2010 movie in which he stars.

Stepping out: Sir Michael Caine, 85, was aided by a crutch on Friday as took to the stage at Somerset House, London, to introduce the film 'Inception' at Film4 Summer Screen.

Michael kept his lower half more casual, in a pair of relaxed-fit black trousers and practical, unassuming trainers.

The Batman Begins star held a microphone up to his mouth, while leaning on his brown wooden crutch, and took a photo in front of the delighted audience.

The film icon told the audience: ‘If I’m in it, it’s reality. If I’m not, it’s a dream. And it’s been a dream for me.’

Fans of the fantastically imaginative and densely plotted thriller which weaves a  dizzying succession of dreams within dreams, were convinced that Michael’s cryptic line gave them the answer to the film’s overall puzzle.

One excited Twitter user wrote: ‘My sister is at a screening of Inception at Somerset House hosted by Michael Caine and he said this:

‘Michael Caine just said that when he asked Christopher Nolan which scenes are reality and which scenes were dreams he told him that the scenes with Michael Caine in are reality.’

Deciphering the meaning of Michael’s revelation, the Twitter user’s sister continued: ‘OMG so at the end when the thing is spinning and you don’t see it stop so you’re not sure if Leonardo DiCaprio made it home or not he did because Michael Caine is in that scene.’

The legendary actor’s appearance at Somerset House comes after he suffered from an unfortunate ankle injury earlier this year.

‘Michael slipped and broke his ankle in his garden during the recent heavy snow,’ his spokesperson told The Mirror at the time. ‘He is in fine health and great spirits.’

In July, he told TimeOut: ‘It’s coming along fine. It’s just tremendous inconvenience.’

Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House returned for two weeks this August, to create London’s ultimate outdoor film destination.

This year’s stellar selection of films are being shown on London’s largest outdoor screen and accompanied by DJ sets, exclusive onstage introductions from directors, cast and surprise special guests.
